Senator John Kerry, "Ed's one of the most experienced and capable legislators in the entire Congress and it would be an almost unprecedented occasion for such an accomplished legislator to join the Senate able to hit the ground running on every issue of importance to Massachusetts. Ed's someone who authored and passed a visionary energy bill to deal with climate change; he's one of Congress' foremost experts on the Internet, telecommunications and new energy economies; he was a leader on nuclear weapons issues; and he's the House's leading, ardent, and thoughtful protector of the environment. Ed's upbringing in Malden and his service as the Dean of our delegation means he knows in his heart and in his head just what is important to every corner of our state. He's passionate about the issues that Ted Kennedy and I worked on as a team for decades, whether it's health care or the environment and energy or education. He's gutsy and tough, smart and sharp, a workhorse in Congress who has never forgotten where he came from or who sent him to Washington."

"Ed is the dean of the Massachusetts delegation and has been an exceptional Congressman for his District. He’s respected nationally for his energetic leadership on issues relating to the environment, energy and technology. He has the experience and expertise to address the pressing economic issues facing our nation. He knows how to get things done. He will bring proven experience in the workings of Congress to his service in the Senate, and that is an enormous asset and benefit for the people of Massachusetts. Ed Markey is the right person for the job. He will be a superb Senator for Massachusetts.”

Michael Bennet (D-CO), in a statement to support the senate bid of Ed Markey, “Ed Markey has spent his career fighting for the people of Massachusetts. He has been a leader on some of the most important issues of our time and has repeatedly taken on the special interests in Washington. At a time when the country needs real leadership that looks out for the middle class, Ed Markey always remembers where he came from and will continue the hard work needed to turn our economy around. He is exactly the kind of leader Massachusetts needs in the US Senate.”

His work to pass groundbreaking telecommunications laws has helped to create good jobs in the Commonwealth and across the country. Massachusetts needs a leader and champion with the energy, ability and proven experience to tackle the great challenges of our day and help lead us to an even brighter future. There is no person better for the job than Ed Markey, and I am proud to support him as our next US senator."

LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Ed Markey.”

AFSCME Council 93 President Charles C. Owen, Jr., "AFSCME is proud to place our strong support behind Congressman Ed Markey. When it comes to fighting for the middle class and securing adequate federal funding for the essential public services that Massachusetts needs and we provide, we know we can always count on Ed Markey. He is an outspoken and highly respected leader in Congress who works to build consensus but refuses to yield to the ongoing pressure to balance our budget problems on the backs of public employees and the middle-class. Now more than ever, we need leaders like Congressman Markey in the United States Senate."

"I am running to continue the strong progressive leadership that the families of the Fifth District have always counted on. I look forward to bringing my record of accomplishment to Washington to fight for our progressive values," Sciortino said in a statement. "I am proud to call Ed Markey my Congressman and I am dedicated to helping elect him as our next U.S. Senator. His record on behalf of Massachusetts families – fighting for jobs, consumers’ rights and a healthier environment— is the kind of leadership Massachusetts needs in the Senate and it is a record I look forward to continuing in Congress." |

Progressive Massachusetts is a statewide, diverse grassroots organization organized around progressive issues in MA. Executive director Deborah Shah said more than 97 percent of the votes cast by the organization’s members were to endorse Markey. “He’s kind of a hero” to members on issues of energy and the environment, Shah said, adding that the group endorsed Markey over his Democratic primary opponent U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch because of Markey’s record supporting abortion rights and supporting Democratic President Barack Obama’s health care reform. Shah said the group appreciated Markey’s leadership on energy and environmental issues. |

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, on his more than 40-year relationship with Markey,
"The same strong values he learned growing up in Malden drive him today: integrity, fairness, and opportunity for all. Ed combines these principles with passion and creativity that make him not only a valued colleague but also an effective leader both here in Massachusetts and in Washington," Grossman said in his endorsement. "From his leadership on climate change, to his tireless work to move America toward a clean energy future, to his authorship of transformational telecommunications laws, Ed's focus is to make our nation a better place for all Americans. I also appreciate Ed's unshakeable commitment to a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, which I've seen in his many visits to the Middle East and his deep understanding of the challenges Israel faces from its hostile neighbors." |

From Dan Proctor, Chapter Chair of the Massachusetts Chapter Sierra Club: “Rep. Markey has been steadfast in his dedication to clean air, clean water and clean energy -- even when those issues lacked popular attention or political expediency. Daily Kos Senior Political Writer, Joan McCarter, "When it comes to filling the Senate seat recently vacated by John Kerry, Democrats have as clear a choice as it gets. And for progressives, there's only one option: Rep. Ed Markey. This would be the case even if his opponent wasn't Rep. Stephen Lynch, who likes to call himself a "moderate" but is in reality very conservative, with a long anti-choice voting record. He voted against the Affordable Care Act. He voted for the Iraq war and voted against a timeline for withdrawal. He's also flip-flopped on gun safety and on gay rights. Indeed, when Lynch first ran for Congress in 2001, he portrayed himself as "the conservative candidate." Those are all good reasons to oppose Lynch, but there's no shortage of good reasons to support Ed Markey. First and foremost is Markey's long record on environmental issues, from climate change to natural resource conservation to green jobs."

Massachusetts Teachers Association is the largest union in the state and has 110,000 members. “Congressman Markey has been a strong and effective advocate for public education and the rights of working men and women,” said MTA President Paul Toner. “He knows how to get things done. He is intelligent, hard-working and principled. If Ed Markey is elected, we are confident he will fight as hard for students and public education in the U.S. Senate as he has done in the House.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America President, Ilyse Hogue, “Rep. Markey is the only candidate in this race with a steadfast commitment to protecting reproductive freedom and privacy. Markey shares the widely-held belief that women are capable of making their own health-care decisions without interference from politicians. Despite considerable losses in the 2012 election cycle, anti-choice politicians continue their relentless attacks on women’s reproductive rights. We must ensure the Senate continues to serve as the firewall against an agenda that’s out of touch with our nation’s values and priorities. Ed Markey is the only candidate in this race who women can trust to defend their reproductive rights and we proudly support his campaign. We will do all we can to make sure that our Massachusetts members know he is the reliable ally they should support on April 30.”

National Wildlife Federation Action Fund senior adviser, Adam Kolton, "Rep. |
Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts President, Martha "Marty" Walz, "We are pleased to stand with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in support of Congressman Markey, who is unwavering in his support for women's health. Massachusetts voters are proud of our long history of electing U.S. Senators who put smart policies ahead of political ideologies and who will not compromise on women's access to health care. We must carry on that tradition and elect Congressman Markey, who understands that politicians should not meddle in a woman's personal health care decisions. The women and men of Massachusetts can trust Congressman Markey to respect their choices."

SEIU MA State Council Chair, Cliff Cohn, "Ed Markey will be a strong advocate for working families in Massachusetts.
